            Yoga for Embodiment

Yoga for Embodiment is a practice that builds valuable resources to support physical, mental & emotional, and spiritual growth. Yoga means yoking or union of mind, body and soul in order to cultivate self-realization. To achieve a state of union, it is important to deliberately guide, or yoke, the mind and body. This class teaches you key ways to do this.

In Yoga for Embodiment, yoking the body-mind is done through repeated mindful practice of : Synchronizing movement & breath; Bandas (tensing specific muscles along the central torso); Dristis (gazing points). When these components are practiced together an internal alchemy arises.

Synchronizing movement through the postures and conscious breathing (pranayama): The breath becomes the key to focusing the mind and engaging the body. At first it is difficult to not strain your body and maintain steady, balanced breathing while you move into, hold, and then move out of yoga postures.

Bandhas. The Bandhas create a container in your central torso by sealing or tensing specific muscles. Within this container you learn how to build internal “heat,” which softens chronic patterns of tension allowing life-energy to flow freely. Bandhas are cultivated concurrently with conscious breathing.

Dristis are used to help you direct your outward looking eyes inward. In this way, you learn to be aware of your surroundings while maintaining a clear awareness of your inner experience.

Yoga for Embodiment has two influential principles: All the yoga postures are linked in a sequence, so you move directly from one posture into the next; and there are a number of synchronized breath/movement transitions into and out of each posture. The specific sequence of postures is designed to stretch and tone every muscle in the body, as well as the nerves, and organs.

The intention is that you develop strength, flexibility and stamina as you cultivate a graceful, flowing sequence of transitions and postures all woven on the thread of your breath through conscious breathing.

Once you are familiar with the sequence you can focus on a deeper level of "yoking" your life-energy and quieting your mind. You work deeply on your inner body by opening the subtle energy channels to harness your life-energy. In this way, you not only learn to self-regulate your nervous system, you cultivate a deeper state of self-awareness and embodiment.

The body-mind practices applied in Yoga for Embodiment are vital tools for skillfully managing difficult aspects of life and invoking an inner awakening.
